This is a priority list of pointing devices, with better pointing devices toward the top of the list. Ellipsis points indicate a significant gap in quality, which may or may not be filled by other pointing devices not listed.

Microsoft TrackBall Optical is the name of a particular model of trackball offered by Microsoft, probably long since out of production. Someone swiped mine years ago and, though I rarely have occasion to need any pointing device peripherals (I have TrackPoints integrated with my laptops and do almost everything with the keyboard these days anyway), I do sometimes miss that marvel of UI engineering.
